Lost and Found in Love

March 19 at 4:30 p.m.

It’s been 10 years since Nextbook left Seattle — taking with it rich evenings of staged readings and discussions with writers like Michael Chabon, Amos Oz, and Nicole Krauss. Missing that Jewish literature-meets-performance scene, actors involved with Nextbook have reorganized into Tales of the Alchemysts Theatre, a company committed to bringing Jewish literature to stage and life. Led by veteran actor Shellie Shulkin, Book-It Repertory Theatre director/adapter Laura Ferri, actor and Book-It founding member David S. Klein, and musician/musical director Carl Shutoff, Tales of the Alchemysts launches its first season in January with a staged reading of three powerful short stories by Isaac Bashevis Singer. The company’s five-year plan includes a year of Sephardic literature, Jewish humor, and Holocaust literature.
