I think the biggest takeaway from the march is that youth have more power than people give them credit for. I’ve found that young people often have a clearer understanding of what needs to be done because we have newly formed ideals that have yet to be worn down by the harsh realities of living in a world where the good doesn’t always win. As a young person, I’ve found that my opinions shift immensely when exposed to conflicting ideals, and I think the elasticity of youth in their understanding of the world is a tremendous asset, because it allows us to form a more nuanced understanding. Rather than sticking to values we’ve had for decades, we’re shaping our ideals as we go, which means that even if we stumble, we’ll get back up and keep learning from our missteps.
