What does being Jewish mean to you?
What first comes to mind is kol Yisrael arevim zeh bazeh: each Jew is responsible for another. But I believe that concept goes beyond our community and includes everyone — Jew and non-Jew alike. We have a responsibility to make the world a better place. I am convinced that to be a “light unto the nations,” we must set an example by the way we live our lives — and even on a smaller basis, how we live within our own communities and within our own families. It’s the role of each individual and an opportunity for each of us to make a difference in the world. When we consider life and mortality — don’t we want to leave the world a better place?
