On getting his feet wet

I’ve always been interested in the ocean. Four years ago, I went to Camp Ramah [in California], where I learned to skimboard. I like to be in the water, and I like to do things other people don’t do. Then my dad took me [flowboarding] and I just fell in love with it.

On competing at waterparks and standalone surf machines

Flowboarding is an alternative board sport that combines snowboarding, skimboarding, wakeboarding, and skating. You only get three runs of 30 seconds. People think you stand and it’s easy, but it’s more than that. You can do any trick or anything you want as long as you try.

On being a brand ambassador for FlowRider, a manufacturer of surf simulator machines

Last year I made a video for FlowRider’s shop. It was cool to make it for them and put it on YouTube. I’m going to college in California, and I want to go into film. Being a brand ambassador inspired me to make more videos.

On the horizon

I met Denver McKelheer over the summer. He was one of the first pros in wakeboarding, and he took me on his boat. I could maybe go pro in that one day. It’s a different environment and a different board, but I see myself doing it.
