Bryan Levy wanted more kosher options. That’s why he’s launching Seattle Kosher Catering and KoGo, a kosher meat food truck, with his sister Jen Morhaime. Coming to a street corner near you this spring, the truck will provide modern kosher meat dishes and Sephardic pastries. “My sister wanted a Sephardic bakery; I wanted a kosher barbecue restaurant,” Levy says. “It was a pipe dream. But I did the research, and it’s got potential.” The chef is already on board — David Babani, known locally for his Garbanzo Bros hummus. The team obtained official kosher certification in November.

Over the summer, Levy offered selections from his future menu at the Bikur Cholim Machzikay Hadath “Basarfest” meat event and again at Sephardic Bikur Holim’s annual bazaar.

“We did barbecue chicken sliders and smoked salmon; my sister made coconut macaroons,” he says. “For the Sephardic bazaar, we did smoked pastrami sandwiches. People loved them. We’re already selling pastrami and smoked salmon in bulk.” Levy rattles off destinations for KoGo, which he says should be open by Passover of 2018: near Microsoft, Amazon, the Stroum JCC, in Seward Park, and even near the stadiums on some game days. The company will offer catering, as well.

For Levy, this is a labor of love. “Sure, we’d like to make money,” he says. “But our main goal is to serve our community.”
